Quilts for Charity

My labor of love, twenty quilts to go to children who could use a warm hug during this time in their life whatever that maybe. May they feel all the love that was put into them.

This is my third batch of quilts that I have made and been able to donate. I just love doing it and I have learned so much with each batch. This time I learned how to use the cotton side to become the edging on the flannel side. It caused a few re-do's and some frustration when some would come together so easily and others I fought tooth and nail to get them to look half way decent. But I figured the kids will never care how perfect the corners are. I make the quilts in batches with cutting all the batting first, then iron all of the fabrics and lay them out on a table together. Then on another table I square up the fabric and pin them so they are ready to be sewn.  Once all are done I pull out the sewing machine and zip around all of the edges.  Once completed I hang them up on my quilting board and sew the embroidery ties on. Then I snip all the ties and fold them. Once I get a group done I find time to put on a movie and sit and tie all of them. Once done with this I lay them out and snip all of the ties so they are all about the same length.  Then I photograph all of the blankets and decide where they will be donated to.  I have donated my first batch to the Children's Hospital in Thornton Colorado. The second batch to the Linus Project in Huntsville Alabama to serve the Northern Alabama area. This third batch will be going to the Children's Hospital in Nashville Tennessee.

Second Surgery of 2024

It was December 4th and when at the eye doctor when I started to struggle with breathing again.  So then I made a new appointment for December 5th.  Then it was determined that the surgery did not work and they scheduled a second surgery for December 11th.  When I got home on December 5th the sister missionaries had brought me flowers.

December 11th day of surgery was at Women's and Children's Hospital and performed by Dr. Nassif.

Then on Sunday December 15th Beatriz Pettus brought us some mexican chicken soup and these beautiful flowers.

I went in for a my follow-up on December 18th and the scarring had already grown back. They put me on 60mg of prednisone for 7 days then 40 for two days and 20 for two days. This got me to December 28th.  Then two days later on Monday December 30th I couldn't breathe so Jeff and I ended up in the ER in Florence.  They gave me more prednisone and put me back on 60 mg of prednisone until I saw the Doctor on January 2nd.  Dr. Nassif took one look at my throat and decided he didn't want to mess around. He is keeping me on 40 mg of prednisone until I can get into the specialist he is referring me to at Vanderbilt Hospital who is Dr. Alex Gebhard. I now have an appointment with him on January 9th at 3:00 pm in Nashville.
